About

The ACTRA Toronto Diversity Showcase

Welcome to the ACTRA Toronto Diversity Showcase! This website features a small, curated selection of talented, diverse professional ACTRA Toronto performers. It is intended primarily as promotional tool to give casting directors and producers a taste of the rich diversity of ACTRA Toronto’s membership of Ontario-based ACTRA performers with cultural backgrounds from across the globe. Recognizing that it can be challenging for productions to find performers to represent a specific language, dialect, cultural background or physical attribute, especially when it is integral to the storyline, this site aims to highlight performers hailing from different ethnic origins and celebrate their unique attributes.

Click here to view a full, searchable spreadsheet of showcased performers, and visit diversity.actraonline.ca and contact a Casting Director from the Casting Directors Society of Canada to view more of the amazing talent Canada has to offer.

We are initially launching this showcase with a focus on Black performers, with showcases focusing on performers from additional physically and ethnically diverse backgrounds to come.

Please follow ACTRA Toronto on Social Media, and sign up here to be notified about the release of future showcases.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Black Performer Showcase is the latest in initiatives that ACTRA Toronto has engaged in with Ontario Creates and the Casting Directors Society of Canada to promote the diversity and depth of professional performers in Ontario. Previous initiatives have included diversity casting calls, networking events with US based casting and production executives and ongoing support of ACTRA’s online database: diversity.ACTRAonline.ca

The Casting Directors Society of Canada (CDC) is the only organization in Canada to represent professional casting directors working in every medium where professional actors are required; film, television, commercials, theatre, industrials, even trade shows. In 2020, ACTRA Toronto partnered with the CDC for this initiative, and a group of CDC Casting Directors made the selections from the over 200 applicants who applied for the opportunity.

Submissions for the 2021 Black Performer Showcase have closed, but ACTRA Toronto members in good standing should keep an eye on emails for the next opportunity to submit yourself for consideration, and in the meantime, register or update your profile on diversity.actraonline.ca.
